What is Stripe Connect, and why do I need it?

FFAIR uses a system called Stripe Connect to handle all payments between exhibitors and suppliers safely and automatically.

In simple terms: Stripe is the payment processor that actually moves the money. Stripe Connect is what lets FFAIR link your Stripe account to our platform, so when an exhibitor buys something from your shop, the payment goes directly to you — FFAIR never touches or holds your funds directly.

The flow, in three steps:

  1. You connect your own Stripe Business Account to FFAIR - a one-time setup step when you join
  2. An exhibitor pays for a product in your shop - the payment is processed by Stripe
  3. Stripe automatically splits the payment - your share goes to your connected Stripe account, and platform/organiser fees are separated out automatically. Nothing to do manually.

If you haven't connected your Stripe account yet, this is one of the first things you'll need to do when setting up FFAIR. Read how to connect your Stripe account here.

Once connected, any order payment made by an exhibitor is paid out to you immediately

Exhibitor Payment Methods

You have two main options for receiving payments from exhibitors:

  1. Credit Card Payments - the recommended method. Quickest and without risk. Automatically available for all shows.
  2. Bank Transfers - not available as standard. The organiser can switch this on from their show settings if needed (e.g. an exhibitor genuinely can't pay by card). Not recommended as standard, as it can lead to unpaid invoices - best switched off again once the order has been placed. If chosen, Stripe creates a unique virtual bank account for that order, with details supplied on the exhibitor's invoice. They transfer to this account, and Stripe forwards it to your business account.

Stripe Payouts

You can set your Stripe payout frequency to your bank account by following these steps:

  • Log in to Stripe Business Account
  • Settings
  • Business
  • Bank account and currencies
  • Payout schedule

You can set payouts to occur instantly, daily, weekly, or monthly - whichever best suits you. A less frequent payout means funds have longer to gather, which can help ensure you have funds available to cover any order cancellations if needed.
